The multinational cement and concrete group LafargeHolcim opened a new cement plant in Brazil, in the city of Barroso, Minas Gerais state, to increase its supply of the input in Latin America.
At the new plant, LafargeHolcim claims it has the largest vertical cement mill in the world, with a capacity of 450 tons per working hour.
The plant will have a production capacity of 3.6 million tons of cement per year. She will help the company reduce its cost per ton by 25% within three years.
Eric Olsen, CEO of the group, stated that "the inauguration of Barroso is essential to our strategy in Brazil and will allow us to improve the cost structure". He also recalled projects in Brazil where they are supplying cement. "We are providing solutions for projects such as the Rio International Airport, the Olympic Village and the new metro and bus lines."
