According to Jan Jenisch, the group's CEO, “Q1 was a good start to the year. The continued growth in our top line is encouraging, and confirms the positive outlook for the business. We are confident that we can deliver the desired results for 2018 ”.

In its worldwide operation, LafargeHolcim sold close to US $ 5.8 billion in the first quarter, considering the three markets where it operates with the most presence (cement, concrete and aggregates).

Global cement sales decreased 0.7% in the quarter, standing at 47.7 million tons. The sale of stone aggregates stood at 49.8 million tons (3.7% less), while those of pre-mixed concrete were at 11.1 million cubic meters (also lower than in 1Q17 by 2.3%).

What explains the proportional liquid growth in sales is the comparison effect, given that the company's cement production level grew. On a basis free of distortions (like-for-like) the effect is one of growth.

Latin America has been delivering partially good results. Cement sales in the region in the first quarter grew 4.4%, reaching 6 million tons. Meanwhile, aggregates fell sharply in the region, with -22.9% year-on-year, and the sale of ready-mixed concrete reached 1.3 million cubic meters, a fall of 11.8%.
